The TechGrow project has recently completed a briefing note exploring the potential for integrating new skills and knowledge developed within the project into the ESCO classification system. ESCO (European Skills, Competences, Qualifications, and Occupations) provides a common language to better match skills and occupations with the needs of the European labour market.
As part of this initiative, the TechGrow project has identified multiple occupations in the textile, footwear, and furniture sectors that could benefit from the innovative training materials and methodologies introduced in the project. The report highlights how TechGrow’s focus on Technology Watch and Competitive Intelligence can enhance skills development, supporting upskilling and reskilling in key industry areas.
This bridge between the new knowledge from TechGrow and the ESCO framework will contribute to reducing skills mismatches, improving the relevance of vocational education and training, and increasing the competitiveness of European SMEs in traditional manufacturing sectors. The findings underline the potential for further collaboration with ESCO to update and enhance the classification of key skills and competences in these industries.
